Vintage Christmas Angel Ornament
Materials Needed:
- 1 Heavy white drawing paper
- 1 White Royal Lace® Medallion doilies
- 1 gold metallic chenille bump stem
- 1 White silk flower 1/2″ diameter
- Gold glitter
- Thin black permanent marker
- Colored pencils or water base markers
- Transparent tape
- Craft glue
- Ribbon or string for hanging loop
Directions:
- Use the pattern, enlarging to 3 7/8″ tall & cut this shape out of the drawing paper.
- Draw features on face & hair outlines with black permanent marker. Color in hair and
- rosy cheeks with colored pencils or water base markers. Cut through marks to create slit for hands.
- Using a thickness of 2 doilies as one piece, reinforce back center of them with a 2″ piece transparent tape. Cut a slit 1” long through tape center and all thicknesses.
- Fold the doily in half along slit line. Slip over head of angel body. Using a thickness of 2 doilies, create wing by folding in half, then again to make a fold of 4 layers. Repeal for second wing. Set aside.
- Cut off a 2″ length or chenille stem. Fold In half like a bobby pin.
- Taking first wing, measure in to about 3/8″ from point of wing. At this point. work the 2 ends of chenille “bobby pin” through holes in doily. Once complete, work the same ends through 2nd wing. They are now overlapped to look like a butterfly shape.
- Taking the same chenille bobby pin ends (with wings attached) place wings on back of angel body. The chenille ends should point toward slits cut in angel body. Work each one through the slit cut for hands. These will go through the skirt and body of the angel 10 appear in front like arms.
- Cut flower stem to about 1 ½” long. Twist the arms once close to the body, then attach flower by wishing remaining arms around the stern. tucking wire ends in back of flower.
- Cut another 2” piece of chenille stem. (Using thick bump portion). Bend into a circle, securing ends with a small twist. Place this circle as halo for angel. Secure on back of head with glue.
- Trace a glue pattern on front of angel skirt, following doily pattern as you like. Sprinkle with glitter and shake off excess. Dry. Fluff out wings. You may also attach hanging loop of ribbon or string on back of the angel to hang as tree ornament.
Make enough angels to completely fill a small tabletop tree and decorate with lengths of gold braid of beads, or experiment with silver foil or gold foil doilies to make a variation of the above ornament. Your tree will glitter with the beauty of lace!
